More information on the Tree
The scientific name of the selected tree that was planted on 12 May 2010 is the Gnetum gnemon, also commonly known as the "Belinjau".

Belinjau is a small to medium size cone-bearing evergreen tree that can reach between 10 –15m in height. The tree is slender with a straight stem which is characteristically marked by ‘rings’ that indicate the position of older branches that have fallen off.

The tree has broad glossy dark green leaves. Emping belinjau is a Malay snack that is made by pounding the kernels of the fruits into a disc, drying it in the sun and then salting it or covering it in caramel.

According to the status in the Singapore Red Data Book status, Gnetum gnemon is a critically endangered species.
